Casa Gangotena

Casa Gangotena

Quito, Ecuador

This award-winning boutique hotel occupies a grand house on the corner of Plaza San Francisco, the capital's most iconic square. The converted historic mansion was lovingly restored over a period of five years and mixes Art Nouveau with contemporary design to create some truly elegant public areas.

Bright and serene courtyards can be found inside and out, decorated with period furniture alongside contemporary pieces, as well as bowls of Ecuador’s famous and colorful roses. High-ceilinged hallways and winding marble staircases connect the suites and communal areas, while the rooftop terrace looks out over the bustling plaza below.

OUR OPINION:

Step back in time in one of Quito’s finest hotels. A superb location and attention to detail make this one of our favorite hotels in the city, and a visit to the rooftop terrace is a must at least once during your stay to take in the wonderful views.

Rooms

Due to the character of this heritage building, the rooms at Casa Gangotena offer varying sizes, locations and views, which determine the category. Plaza View rooms occupy the first and second floors, offering views over the Plaza San Francisco, while the Luxury rooms are distributed across all four levels of the hotel and offer views of the garden, internal courtyards, street, or south to the Virgin of Quito. There's also a Luxury Plus room, which is richly decorated with neoclassical columns; a Balcony Junior Suite overlooking the garden with views of the Virgin of Quito; and a Junior Suite overlooking the garden and Panecillo hillside. All rooms offer the same amenities and services, with iPod docks, free Wi-Fi, cable TVs, safes and very spacious marble bathrooms or shower rooms in each. They're also all air conditioned and soundproofed.

Location

Casa Gangotena’s location on the impressive Plaza San Francisco means the main sights of Quito’s UNESCO-protected historic center are just a short walk away. Just a few blocks away is Plaza Grande, where you can find lots of great restaurant options.

Food and drink

The restaurant serves fine Ecuadorian and international cuisine and is only open to the public for lunch, meaning the hotel remains serene and private for the rest of the day. There's a stylish bar in the lobby, and your stay here will also include the hotel's delicious take on British afternoon tea with an Ecuadorian twist.

Facilities and activities

A truly unique offering that guests at Casa Gangotena can enjoy is the opportunity to sign up to a daily cultural activity, completely free of charge. These include activities such as chocolate tasting, a demonstration of traditional medicine or a behind-the-scenes look around the renowned El Alabado museum.
