Thon Hotel Opera Oslo, Norway

Thon Hotel Opera

Oslo, Norway

Combining an exceptional location with a playful, modern design, Thon Hotel Opera is an excellent base for exploring central Oslo. Directly next to the opera house in the heart of Bjørvika, you’re just a short walk to the Munch Museum and Deichman Library, the railway station and the shops on Karl Johans Gate.

The hotel’s lobby is bracingly contemporary, with bold patterns and sleek, modern lines. You’ll find the same style throughout, with 480 rooms of cool Nordic gray splashed with unexpected jolts of electric fuchsia, shocking chartreuse and shimmering cerulean. Rugs, wallpaper and furniture are all eye catching with audacious prints and unexpected architecture.

You can choose to eat all three meals in Scala Restaurant, a large and sunny eatery offering Nordic cuisine with views of Bjørvika. For drinks, you can visit Eufemia Bar, which offers creative gin-and-tonics as well as nibbles, burgers and interesting desserts.

OUR OPINION:

We love this hotel for its exceptional location in the heart of Bjørvika and its definitive sense of Scandinavian style. The hotel’s playful use of jewel tones and large patterns lends it a distinct personality that we think will please anyone who likes contemporary design.

Rooms

The 480 rooms and suites have a distinctive modern decor typical of Nordic style, with a fearless use of bright jewel tones and large-scale patterns. Cool-gray and white backgrounds are enlivened by splashes of citrine green, hot tourmaline pink and piercing aquamarine. The accent walls have large floral patterns and the furniture has clean mid-century lines. White-tiled en suite bathrooms are well appointed, with most having a tub.

You can choose from a range of options that vary from snug to spacious — larger rooms and suites include balconies and separate sitting rooms.
