Anna about to take a flight in Alaska

Anna

Canada, Alaska & Arctic Specialist

Anna developed her love of mountains, lakes and waterfalls after holidaying in the European Alps from a young age, giving her an innate sense of adventure.

After graduating with a degree in ancient history from the University of Nottingham she decided to venture in search of more wilderness and ended up working in Canada as an online website curator at the Whistler Museum, skiing, snowboarding and exploring the west coast of the country in her free time. Since working at Audley she has completed several extensive trips around Canada and Alaska, each time becoming more inspired by their diversity and the endless possibilities of travel out there.

Her trips have seen her flying out by small aircraft to watch the grizzly bears enjoying the salmon run in the Katmai National Park, heli-hiking in the Bugaboos, exploring the cobbled streets of pretty Québec City, traveling across the Rockies by train on the Skeena and driving the Top of the World Highway in the Yukon.

After settling in Witney she now gets her enjoyment from sending Audley clients out there to travel in her footsteps.

Kluane National Park

I recommend visiting - Kluane National Park, Canada

Kluane National Park in the Yukon, Canada is one of the largest protected wilderness areas in the world and as a result it is untouched by commercialism and completely unspoilt. This, combined with the stunning vistas in every direction make it one of my favorite places in Canada.

You can hike for days without seeing a soul and if you are lucky you will come across the largest species of moose in the world, a solitary grizzly bear, dall sheep, which are in abundance and so much more.

The drive from Whitehorse is also incredible and you do not need to have a love of walking to appreciate the park so make sure to include it within a Canada visit.

Bay Avenue B&B, Homer

I recommend staying at - Bay Avenue B&B, Alaska

Simple

Nestled on the edge of Kachemak Bay and Homer Spit in Alaska is the quaint Bay Avenue B&B.

Owned by the characterful Lori and Mark, who make you feel a part of the family, the B&B offers you the perfect combination of homeliness and tranquility. As with the majority of properties in Alaska, the B&B is simple yet comfortable and anyone on a visit to Alaska is going there for the location, which this property is perfect for. I was fortunate enough to see a moose wandering through the garden and an eagle flying past the window during my short one night stop.

Bay Avenue encompasses all Alaska is about, it’s somewhere you'll hear stories, eat hearty breakfasts and is a good base for all of the adventures that await you on your doorstep. It is somewhere to experience the true Alaska.

I'll never forget when…

Heli-hiking in the Bugaboos has to be the best experience I have ever had.

With the magnificent Rockies towering above me I was strapped into the side seat of a helicopter and we flew through the mountains, over jagged peaks and untouched wilderness. It was the ride of mine and my companions’ lives and there was not a fellow member of our party who was not deeply moved by the majesty of the view before us.

That was just the transfer to the lodge itself; the experience got more incredible over the following few days. We hiked for as long as we liked each day before letting our guide know that we wished to head home for a glass of wine on the lodge deck, or a for a dip in the hot tub. At this, the helicopter was called and picked us up in any remote location we chose. What's not to love?

To those of you who think this may not be for them, I would urge you to rethink your plans; I promise that you will not regret it.
