Formerly known as the Golden Coast, the Kapiti Coast extends north of Wellington past Paraparaumu and Waikanae. Though the mainland coastline is stunning, this area is most famous for Kapiti Island, ten kilometers long and two wide.

Created by giant earthquakes in the distant past, it is now one of the country’s most valuable nature reserves: as a bird sanctuary it has played a significant part in protecting many species.

Access to the island is limited and the Department of Conservation limits visitor numbers to just 50 per day, nevertheless, we can arrange for you to either stay on the island or visit for the day.
