Borgo Santo Pietro, Tuscany

Borgo Santo Pietro

Italy

Restored by Danish couple, Jeanette and Claus Thottrup, the old ruins that stood at the site of Borgo Santo Pietro were originally destined to be transformed into a family home. But, as the couple's passion for the landscape and Tuscan culture developed, the project soon grew into the lavish estate that it is today.

Set within beautifully landscaped gardens, and boasting heritage decor, this property feels like your own Tuscan pied-à-terre. With wonderful views over the cypress-lined hills, an infinity pool, and two fantastic restaurants, it's easy to see why many guests are happy to spend days at a time within the hotel grounds

OUR OPINION:

One the most impressive properties in the region, we particularly like the luxurious yet homely atmosphere on offer at Borgo Santo Pietro. The immaculate grounds and wonderfully restored Tuscan buildings are complemented by the highest levels of service and facilities.

Rooms

Rooms are classic and bold with lavish chandeliers, large elegant fireplaces and beautiful frescoes adorning the walls. The fabrics and linens are extra soft and every room, no matter the category, is tastefully decorated without being excessive. The Suites offer terraces or balconies with views over the gardens or out toward the valley over the infinity pool and restaurant. Bathrooms are a good size and come fitted with all the amenities of a high-quality five-star hotel.

Location

Borgo San Pietro is approximately 35 minutes’ drive from Siena and 45 minutes from the medieval town of San Gimignano. Florence could also be visited on a day trip from here. However, with such a wonderful range of activities available on the estate, you may not want to venture further afield.

Food and drink

You can choose between the gourmet Michelin-starred restaurant, Meo Modo, with views of the Tuscan valley, or the simpler, but equally attractive, brasserie by the swimming pool. The latter also hosts a charming, seasonal farmers’ market and offers delicious wood oven-cooked pizzas and sharing plates.

Facilities and activities

Whether you wish to while away the hours in the painters' outhouse, visit the resident alpacas, swim in the pool, join in a cooking class or visit the vegetable garden, there is plenty to do at Borgo Santo Pietro. You could watch a classic film in the open-air cinema or simply stroll through the gardens. There are also tennis and volleyball courts as well as a playground.
