Its exterior beautifully simple with pale yellow walls, climbing vines and a traditional pub sign, the Dunraven Arms Hotel boasts an impressively large interior. An intimate lobby area welcomes guests next door to the acclaimed Maigue Restaurant, which serves traditional Irish fare with a modern twist. Lounges are scattered about the hotel, furnished with comfy blue sofas and open fires with elaborately-detailed surrounds, while cupboards filled with china create the feeling of sitting in a family home. Rooms are simple but attractive, with soft white linens and neutral palettes, accented by shades of red.

The hotel's beauty rooms offer a variety of pampering treatments, a sauna and a steam room, as well as a large swimming pool.

Rooms

Classically elegant with an old-world charm but full modern amenities, the rooms are spacious and comfortable with plush bedding and a natural palette of white and yellow. All rooms offer free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV and spacious bathrooms with powerful showers while suites come with separate lounge areas and garden views. Some also feature gas fires, roll top baths and canopied four-poster beds.

Location

The hotel is situated in the heart of the beautiful village of Adare, just a 20-minute drive from Limerick. The village plays out along a single street lined with quaint, 19th-century thatched cottages now housing craft shops and cafés. There's also a beautifully weathered Augustinian priory and a romantic riverside castle nearby.

Food and drink

The hotel's Maigue Restaurant is named after the local river and serves a menu based on seasonal local produce at breakfast and dinner. Breakfast includes an excellent spread of hot and cold dishes including baked Limerick ham. Dinner is atmospheric, lit by chandeliers, and features a menu that takes traditional Irish cuisine and adds modern flare. Light meals are also served in the Hunters Bar, an intimate space with oak-panels on the walls, leather banquettes and a jazz pianist.
