Le Taha'a Island Resort and Spa, French Polynesia

Le Taha'a Island Resort and Spa

Taha'a, French Polynesia

Without resorting to cliché, this resort is the archetypal South Pacific paradise, with thatched huts and walkways overlooking turquoise lagoons and green volcanic peaks. Service is friendly and laid-back, yet efficient and intuitive.

The resort only has 57 suites and villas and is perfect for honeymoon or celebratory trips. Exploring the amazing underwater world is a popular activity, as is relaxing on this private motu simply enjoying the sublime views. Alternatively, unwinding with a traditional massage in the beautiful spa is a great way to while away a couple of hours.

OUR OPINION:

A traditional resort in French Polynesia that provides one of the most beautiful unspoiled island locations in the South Pacific.

Rooms

With each of the 57 villas and suites at the resort you will get beautifully decorated rooms that use natural materials from the region including pandanus roofs, local stones and bamboo. Each room features air-conditioning, king size beds, a safe, minibar, a separate shower and bath, satellite TV, and tea and coffee-making facilities. The beach villas each have personal plunge pools while the overwater bungalows have direct access to the blue waters.

Location

Located next to a stunning coral reef and on a small motu, or islet, is Le Taha’a Island Resort and Spa. It is covered with coconut palms leading to white sand beaches that overlook calm, coral-filled lagoons and the deeper blue seas beyond. In one direction are views across to the towering peaks of Bora Bora, and in the other the neighboring island of Taha'a.

By its nature, on a remote private island, shops and amenities are limited. However, the resort has everything you need, including a small shop, restaurants and bars onsite. They can also arrange a boat trip over to the main island to enjoy a meal at the one local restaurants within reach.

Food and drink

The resort has three restaurants: Le Vanille, La Plage and The Ohiri. Le Vanille is the main restaurant that is set among the trees and serves breakfast and dinner. La Plage is a great spot for alfresco lunches on the beach, set under a magnificent high thatched roof. For fine dining you can make a reservation at The Ohiri, which features French-Polynesian fusion cuisine along with fine wines. If you are looking for a refreshing drink you can head to Manuia, which is on the beach and has a swim-up bar. Alternatively, Tehutu serves pre-dinner cocktails and tapas.

Families

Although this is predominantly a couples' resort, families are welcome. Babysitting can be arranged for a charge and there are kids' menus at Le Plage and Le Vanille, where children under 13 eat for free. Children will love the magical setting, but may tire of a longer stay.

Facilities and activities

You'll find snorkeling equipment waiting for you in each villa, and the overwater room types enjoy direct access to the lagoon. You can also try kayaking, paddleboarding and waterskiing for free from the resort. On land, facilities include an infinity pool, a gym and a library, and you can play bocce, tennis and beach volleyball. Le Spa sits on the island's interior lagoon in an incredibly tranquil setting.
