I have been studying the Spanish language since I was 14 years old, so when I had the opportunity to study abroad during college, Spain was a natural choice for me. As soon as I arrived in Madrid — my home for five months — I was fascinated by the city’s constant supply of activities at all hours of the day, from the delicious tapas at every corner, to outdoor markets and rooftop wine tastings, to pop-up art exhibits and live music in the Plaza Mayor.
From Madrid, I explored Spain’s many cities and islands. I loved the charming cobblestone streets of Toledo, the pristine beaches of Malaga, the colourful architecture of Barcelona, and the delicious Valencian paella. Naturally, this led me to explore neighboring Portugal and fall in love with its variety of landscapes and food/wine culture.
I’ve been working as a Spain and Portugal specialist since graduation. Sharing my love for the Iberian Peninsula and its rich culture is a passion of mine, and joining Audley has allowed me to turn that passion into a career.

What鈥檚 your most vivid travel moment?
It was a chilly day in Lagos, Portugal, so I chose to go for a short hike instead of swimming. Right by the boardwalk at Praia do Porto de Mos was a sandy path winding up the cliffs. From the top, I could see surfers riding the waves below, the lights of the beachfront restaurants sparkling, the city鈥檚 pastel buildings in the distance, and vibrant pinks and oranges in the sky. I only passed a few other people on my way 鈥 the whole hike was very peaceful and quiet, except for the crashing of the waves.
Where would you love to travel next?
The Azores have long been a dream destination for me. The combination of vast landscapes, craters, lagoons, hydrangea fields, beaches, and distinctive cuisine check all my boxes. I would also look forward to the various hiking trails and other outdoor activities.
Which book, film or artwork captures Spain the most?
Joaquin Sorolla, known for painting Spanish landscapes and portraits, is a name that immediately comes to mind for me. I especially love Sorolla鈥檚 鈥淭wo Sisters, Valencia鈥 in which two girls, dressed in traditional Valencian attire, play on a beach under the bright Mediterranean sun. This, and Sorolla鈥檚 other paintings, provide an artistic insight into the country鈥檚 vibrant landscapes and touch on themes of light, happiness, and community. Viewing and analyzing Sorolla鈥檚 work in my college Spanish classes helped spur my excitement to see Spain 鈥 and the Sorolla Museum in Madrid was one of my favorite stops.
