Biker passing Copenhagen canal

Copenhagen bike tour

Spend an afternoon or morning with a private guide experiencing and exploring Copenhagen in the same way a local does — on two wheels. The Danish capital is widely considered the best cycling city in the world and more than half of all residents ride a bicycle every single day. In fact, there are parts of the city that you can’t see from a car.

Your guide will take you on a winding 12-km (7-mile) route through the city, passing many major sights like the Parliament, the Queen’s Castle and even the Little Mermaid statue. You’ll also pedal through the city’s many leafy parks and alongside scenic canals, taking in the calm green atmosphere that helps to define Copenhagen’s character.

Additionally, you’ll ride along the Cykelslangen, or Bicycle Snake. This elevated bridge winds its way across the city, providing a safe, cyclists-only route that also offers expansive views of the city and the waterfront.

Your private guide will meet you at your hotel with bicycles for you to ride, or at a nearby shop where you’ll choose your own bicycle. They’ll explain the rules and etiquette of cycling in Copenhagen and then together you’ll set out for your three-hour tour of the city.

Half of all journeys in Copenhagen take place on a bicycle and the city is renowned for its cycling culture. This is thanks to a dedicated effort from the city’s government, which fosters the practice with ample infrastructure including special cycling lanes, bridges, and thoughtful city planning that helps cars and cyclists share the road safely.

Perhaps the best example of this dedication to cycling is the Cykelslangen. Built in 2014, this so-called Bicycle Snake is an elevated bicycle bridge that winds over the busy waterfront. Not only does it ease congestion, it offers a view you simply can’t get in a car.

Your route will take you past many of the city’s major attractions, of course. But it also provides a way to really understand the city’s quieter pleasures, like the many shady parks that help make Copenhagen one of Europe’s greenest cities. You’ll also glide alongside canals that run through quiet residential areas.
