Santa Fe de Antioquia

Santa Fe de Antioquia Tour

You will be met from your hotel by your driver and taken directly to Santa Fe de Antioquia for your full day tour of the town, a journey of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to reach Santa Fe. Set in a lush, low lying, hot and sultry valley on the banks of the Rio Cauca, Santa Fe de Antioquia is the oldest settlement in the region. Founded in 1541 it served as the capital of the department until 1826 when the state capital moved to Medellín.

The town has kept much of its colonial charm, with narrow streets and whitewashed colonial style buildings, many of which have large central courtyards in which to relax away from the midday heat. The central plaza is dominated by the principal church of the town. The plaza is also home to a daily market where vendors sell various varieties of tamarind product that grow locally — take a tour of the stalls and try a few samples of this local delicacy.

There are several other churches and important colonial buildings to visit but the greatest pleasure is simply exploring the narrow streets infused with the history of the region. You will arrive back in to Medellín late afternoon.
