Grizzly bear at Bute Cove

Grizzly Bears of Bute Cove

On this eight hour, grizzly bear watching journey, operating between late August and October, you travel on board a high speed Zodiac or covered vessel to the Orford River Valley located in picturesque Bute Inlet.

Like Knight Inlet, Bute is a pristine river valley and is home to 40 resident grizzly bears. The inlet is also the historic home of the Homalco First Nation, one of the Coast Salish Indigenous peoples whose guides will meet you when you disembark and accompany you along the Orford River Valley by mini bus to the of specially designed grizzly bear viewing platforms, positioned along the river in various locations for maximum grizzly bear viewing. You witness the grizzly bears feasting on spawning salmon in a true wilderness setting for about three hours.

On this journey you may also observe orcas, dolphins, eagles and other wildlife in their natural environment.
