Landlocked Saskatchewan is Canada’s prairie province. While far from Canada’s vast coastline, it still has much to shout about. In Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, flat prairies meet grassy hills where moose, elks and deer wander. And, butting up against the USA, Grasslands National Park protects a herd of resident bison that stray across the hardly touched, almost treeless prairie. Our Canada specialists can tell you the best ways to experience a vacation in Saskatchewan, both in its cities and its great outdoors.

You could start in Regina, the provincial capital, where museums introduce you to the province’s heritage, people and nature and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. About an hour’s drive away, Moose Jaw is Saskatchewan’s ‘Little Chicago’. Al Capone and his mob set up base here in the 1920s for their whiskey smuggling racket — the Tunnels of Moose Jaw recreates the speakeasy atmosphere of the times. Heading north, Saskatoon fetes itself as Saskatchewan’s most cultured city. At nearby Wanuskewin Heritage Park, you can gain a grounding into the region’s First Nations people. Then, heading farther north still into the province’s hinterland, you hit Prince Albert National Park. A vast expanse of untracked land and islanded lakes, it’s a place you can uncover on foot and through activities such as swimming, canoeing and picnicking.
