Learn about the Lisu people of northern Thailand in a day of activities that combines culture with adventure.
Nestled in the evergreen forests of Mae Taeng, Lisu Lodge is a community-run ecolodge that conserves and shares the customs and beliefs of the Lisu hill tribe. On this full-day experience, you’ll take part in a whole gamut of active and cultural experiences run by the project, including a bike ride through the rice terraces, a lesson in tea harvesting, river rafting, and a visit to a traditional village.
Your guide will meet you at your hotel in Chiang Mai city and travel with you to the lodge, which is entirely run by local Lisu villagers. From there, you’ll get stuck in with the activities, starting with a leisurely 45-minute bike ride through the Mae Taeng countryside.
Passing by fruitful orchards, ornate temple gates, and rolling green rice fields, you’ll eventually reach the plantation of one of Thailand’s oldest Assam tea producers. Here, you’ll join resident tea pluckers in a lush tea garden and learn how to harvest and roast tea before enjoying a freshly brewed cup of your own.
Having worked up an appetite, you’ll enjoy a hearty Thai lunch along the banks of the Mae Taeng River in preparation for an action-packed afternoon of river rafting. Surrounded by emerald hills, you’ll cross calm stretches and white-water rapids, where you can keep an eye out for vibrant flora and fauna.
Once dry, you’ll then head over to a local village. Walking around, you’ll have a chance to meet the local shaman and see traditional practices at work.
The experience ends back at Lisu Lodge. You will then be driven back to your hotel.
