Paradise Koh Yao

Koh Yao, Thailand

The Paradise Koh Yao is a first-class hotel situated in the remote north of Koh Yao Noi. It boasts wonderful views of the limestone islets of Phang Nga Bay and being in close proximity to the hub of Phuket, it is easily accessible — yet feels a world away from the busier resorts.

Most rooms come complete with their own plunge pool with the option to stay poolside, beachfront or hilltop and all take inspiration from the surrounding nature on the island. The Seafood Terrace Restaurant serves up some exciting cuisine and is beautifully set on the edge of the white sand beach with stunning views beyond.

There is a beach club to take advantage of the sunsets and plenty of activities including snorkelling and island-hopping to keep you active during the day.

OUR OPINION:

The perfect haven for those after a quiet retreat in the most breathtaking location.

Rooms

The resort's whitewashed studios and villas are nestled away in the thick tropical forest or right down by the beach for a private and serene stay. Décor is light and airy, drawing inspiration from the ocean with white and blue linens, large glass windows and traditional wooden shutters.

The Jacuzzi villas come complete with their own Jacuzzi and wide doors overlooking the side of the bay, from the hillside. Pool villas are situated directly on the beach, with a private garden, their own bar, a beachside swimming pool and a Jacuzzi. The real highlight of Paradise Koh Yao are the Plunge Pool Deluxe Studios that have a stunning vantage point from the private plunge pool and deck, right over the turquoise waters and limestone karsts of Phang Nga Bay.

All rooms offer a king-sized bed or two twins, air conditioning, a luxurious bathroom, bottled water, tea and coffee facilities, Wi-Fi and cotton robes and slippers.

Location

Situated on the sandy shore of Koh Yao island, in the stunning Phang Nga Bay, the resort is surprisingly reachable for a destination that feels like a castaway island. Accessible in under an hour, by a scenic speedboat ride, from either Krabi or Phuket.

Food and drink

Enjoy alfresco dining with sand between your toes at Seafood Terrace. This open air restaurant has stunning views over the bay and is surrounded by tropical palms. Thai and Western cuisine is served with delicious wine pairings and the à la carte menu has a fantastic variety of fresh seafood. There are also a variety of themed food nights served at the Seafood Terrace, including Thai, wok-fried and seafood barbecue nights.

The aptly named Al Fresco restaurant is also located right down at the beach and offers casual dining with a strong focus on Mediterranean flavours — the highlight is definitely their signature pizza oven. Dishes here are also paired with stunning international wines.

The Beach Club serves a wide variety of snacks, light lunches, and delicious ice creams right next to the infinity pool. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are served throughout the day in the comfort of cosy beanbags, hammocks and deck chairs. After a hard day’s relaxing, head to the Sundowners bar for a delicious, refreshing cocktail and an incredible sunset over the bay. There is live music and specialist mixologists to help you end the day in paradise.

For a really romantic dinner the hotel can set up a private dining table on the beach. Your private waiter will serve five delicious Thai or Western courses and fine wines, while you dine by candlelight, watching the sunset.

Facilities and activities

Being so close to the bay, the hotel offers a wide range of water-based activities including kayaking, snorkelling, boat rental, island-hopping, traditional fishing trips and scuba diving. Being on the water is not for all and the hotel also provides land based recreation options like Thai cookery classes, batik printing, beach volleyball, badminton and table tennis.

For the more adventurous and those wishing to explore the island, there are mountain biking routes and jungle treks right on the doorstep.
