White water rafting on the Kelaniya Ganga

Kelaniya Ganga White-Water Rafting

From Kandy it is around two hours to drive toward Kitulgala for a white-water rafting tour on the Kelaniya Ganga. The Kelaniya Ganga is a stunning river offering some excellent, though relatively gentle, white-water rafting.

The rafting trip itself lasts for around an hour to an hour and a half. Especially in the beginning of your trip, you will come across a few exciting Class 2/3 rapids. Further downstream the river gets a lot gentler and it is just great to sit back, relax and let the amazing landscape pass by.

Just before reaching the end of the tour, you will float past the spot where David Lean filmed the Oscar winning Bridge on the River Kwai in 1957. Those who have seen the movie may well recognise the place and a few of the remains are still visible today.
