Responsible Choice

We've hand-selected a range of tours and stays across the world that go above and beyond to be a force for good by supporting local businesses, educating staff, challenging local norms, or promoting conservation and biodiversity efforts. Your Responsible Choice helps increase the positive impact of your trip.

This lovely heritage property is set in beautifully maintained gardens and feels like a secluded hideaway, despite being only a 30 minute drive from Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport.

The Garden Suites and W Bedrooms are all very well appointed and of a good size. The rooms are modern in design, but with a very boutique feel, while the property itself has kept the charm associated with a classic Sri Lankan estate property. Bathrooms are spacious and modern, coming complete with a range of toiletries. There's a modern spa, a fusion restaurant and a lovely swimming pool in the garden. The property also boasts an impressive farm and extensive organic gardens — speak to reception if you'd like a tour.

With an objective to create long-term value for the local people, community, environment and businesses, The Wallawwa created, as well as works with, charitable foundations with a specific focus on sustainability, wildlife conservation, reforestation, and biodiversity.

OUR OPINION:

A lovely boutique property that’s conveniently close to the airport, but still sufficiently isolated to make an ideal leisure stop at the start of your tour or a relaxing stay before flying home.

Food is served all day, with a separate dinner menu available in the evening, and can be enjoyed on the veranda looking out across the pretty gardens. A selection of vegetarian dishes is available, and special dietary requirements can be catered for if informed in advance. Facilities and activities

The hotel’s modern Z Spa offers a variety of health and beauty treatments and massages. There’s also a swimming pool, which has been built using natural Indian stone tiles and is surrounded by the garden’s lush foliage, a well-stocked library, a study complete with iMac, scanner, printer and internet access, and a gift shop where all profits are donated to the hotel’s chosen charity. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and a number of games can be played on site, including croquet, badminton and board games.

Environmental and social responsibility

All profits generated by the hotel's gift shop are donated to its chosen charity. The charities are hand-picked and change regularly, but are always local organisations that support Sri Lankan children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The majority of products in the shop are sourced locally, often from small craft businesses, helping to support employment in Sri Lanka.
