Anse Chastanet

Saint Lucia

Nestled between the rainforest and two gorgeous beaches lies Nick Troubetzkoy's Anse Chastanet — an authentically designed Caribbean hotel with rooms dotted all around the estate's hillside.

This is not your typical hotel, with most rooms missing a fourth wall, open to the elements and the sounds of the rainforest surrounding the hotel.

OUR OPINION:

A small characterful hotel with an amazing array facilities and activities, all within close proximity to the Pitons. Unfortunately due to the nature of the property we do not recommend for guests with mobility issues.

Excellent

Rooms

There are 49 rooms across the property, each decorated in traditional Caribbean attire and unique local artwork, they provide seclusion from day to day life with no televisions or radios in the rooms. Air conditioning is only offered in the Beach Deluxe rooms or The Beach House. However, the hillside rooms provide an open-plan layout with the fourth wall missing allowing natural breeze to aerate the rooms and welcome the sounds of the rainforest.

Scattered up the hillside are the Standard, Superior and Deluxe Rooms with views over the jungle, with the views getting better the higher the room category. For those who want the ultimate vantage point we recommend taking the Premium Hillside room or the Piton Pool Suite, the only room with a private plunge pool. In all rooms you'll find unique art sourced from local artists, bathrobes, tea and coffee making facilities, and luxury toiletries.

Location

Set upon the hillside with views over the Pitons and down to the two beaches below. A long, narrow road takes you to the hotel's isolated location on the west coast of Saint Lucia. The international airport is approximately a 60-minute drive, and 90-minute drive from the domestic airport. The nearby town of Soufrière can be reached by car transfer in roughly 15 minutes.

Food and drink

Dining options at the hotel consist of a beachfront bar and restaurant which serves light meals during the day and evenings of Caribbean/Indian cuisine. Treehouse Restaurant is located on the hillside serving fine dining and excellent views for both breakfast and dinner. A wholly vegetarian restaurant, Emeralds, sources many of its ingredients from the property's own organic farm. Visit the hotel's second beach Anse Mamin for relaxed lunchtime dining at Jungle Grill.

Families

During the months of July, August and September the minimum child age is six years old. The rest of the year has a minimum age of ten years old. The Beach Deluxe rooms are most suited to families sharing. The Hillside Deluxe and the Premium Hillside rooms can also accommodate extra beds.

Facilities and activities

There are lots of facilities on offer to keep guests busy at Anse Chastanet including a spa, gym, tennis courts and yoga classes. The on-site dive centre offers courses from beginners to advanced divers whilst the water sports centre provides a selection of complimentary activities such as snorkelling equipment, paddleboards and kayaks. If that isn't enough, guests can also choose to partake in cooking classes, chocolate tastings, zip-lining, sunset cruises, jungle biking, island walks and even more as part of the resort's weekly schedule.

Accessibility

Due to the nature of the property and its location, we do not recommend for guests with mobility issues.

Environmental and social responsibility

Anse Chastanet has taken several steps to ensure that they are behaving in an environmentally friendly manner. A few examples include the strict water management system that follows water saving techniques such as a towel reuse programme, rainwater collection and composting beach toilets as well as using non-toxic cleaning products. They use only natural lighting during the daytime and illuminate the grounds at night with yellow lighting so to not interfere with the local environment or wild animal behaviour. Other than the 12 air conditioning units within the accommodations, the other rooms have been designed to optimise the natural air flow. They also adopt a strict reduce, reuse and recycle ethic across the resort.
