Anantara Vilamoura

Algarve, Portugal

Set back from the coast overlooking the Victoria Golf Course and around a ten-minute shuttle from the beach at Vilamoura, the Anantara Vilamoura offers understated style and refined relaxation in Portugal’s Algarve. The first European venture from the Anantara spa brand, the focus here is on well-being and serenity.

The 280 rooms are spread across the extensive property and decorated in a chic, contemporary style with the subtle browns and blues and the sleek wooden furnishings mimicking the tones and textures of the Algarve. Each room also has its own private balcony with a daybed, and a spacious bathroom stocked with local products.

Outside, there are two large swimming pools, one of which is reserved exclusively for adults, as well as a kids' club. There are several dining options including a contemporary Portuguese restaurant, wine bar and Veuve Clicquot poolside Champagne bar. Inside, the hotel’s signature spa provides a stylish place to unwind or you could venture over to the nearby Victoria Golf Course, which was designed by Arnold Palmer and is home to the annual Portugal Masters.

OUR OPINION:

While not located directly on the beach, the Anantara Vilamoura is a great option for some relaxation and downtime. We particularly recommend it for those interested in golf due to the property’s close relationship with the Victoria Golf Course.

Rooms

The rooms are contemporary and comfortable, with fresh, natural tones in the linens and furniture and bright natural light streaming in through the large windows. With all standard amenities such as free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and TVs, Anantara has added extra touches such as private balconies with daybeds, iPod docking stations and espresso machines. Some rooms also offer views over the gardens, pool or golf courses, and suites offer additional services such as a dedicated butler and binoculars.

Location

Located in the heart of the Algarve overlooking the leafy Victoria Golf Course, the hotel is secluded in its own complex but still close to the marina and beach at Vilamoura which is about a ten-minute drive away. The airport in Faro and the Ria Formosa Natural Park are about 30 minutes away, while Lisbon can be reached in less than three hours by car.

Food and drink

The hotel has seven different bars and restaurants, with an additional option for pre-arranged bespoke private dining. The Victoria Restaurant serves a gourmet local buffet for breakfast and dinner, while at Ria and Emo you’ll find seafood and traditional Portuguese cuisine from an à la carte menu. A shuttle will take you to the beachfront bar and restaurant, or you may wish to relax by one of the pool bars.

Families

There are several options available for those visiting with children, including special treats upon check-in and a dedicated kids’ club with supervised activities. Older children can take advantage of athletic clinics led by experts. The hotel also offers a babysitting service which can be arranged in advance.

Facilities and activities

The Anantara Spa has dedicated rooms offering signature treatments, as well as a sauna and Turkish bath. The spa also features a pool which is exclusively for guests staying in suites, though throughout the property you’ll find three additional pools, including a children’s pool and an adults-only pool.
