Japan Specialist

Watching ‘Spirited Away’ as a child ignited my dream of visiting the Land of the Rising Sun. My passion for the Japanese language began at age 13, and I embraced the challenge of self-studying before pursuing it as a GCSE and A-Level. This naturally led me to enrol in a BA in Japanese.

With nearly 20 countries checked off my bucket list, my love for Japan has remained unwavering after holidaying there, and it was subsequently solidified while living there during my degree. I found peace of mind in the thoughtful details put into place that allow the country to work in harmony. Practical designs, such as built-in strainers for instant noodles, social considerations like women-only train carriages, and the emphasis on cleanliness in public spaces truly reflect a culture that values precision and care. This is also known as ‘Kodawari’, which can be defined as a commitment to excellence that I also strive to achieve, using my expertise to plan your dream trip.

Q&A with Jazmine

Hidatei Hanaogi, Takayama

What's the best local dish you've tasted?

During my stay at Hidatei Hanaougi Ryokan in Takayama, I enjoyed an extraordinary 10-course private dinner, featuring the finest local ingredients. The standout dish was the Hida beef accompanied by local steamed rice, miso soup with mushrooms, and pickled vegetables. Compared to the world-renowned Kobe beef, I'm still puzzled as to why Hida is not as sought after. Its rich marbling melts in your mouth with every bite, especially when grilled or served in a hot pot.

Akihabara

Your best piece of travel Advice?

Tokyo’s rapid urbanization has led to a unique landscape where restaurants and services can be found in unexpected places. I once discovered a hidden sake bar, tucked away in an apartment building with a cosy capacity of just five guests. This experience highlighted the importance of being observant and mindful of my surroundings; you never know what hidden gems await you.

Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsunday Islands

Where would you love to travel to next?

Whitehaven Beach on Whitsundays Island, Australia has recently been added to my bucket list. The ‘magic sand’ is 98% pure tiny silica beads that is said to squeak under your feet as you walk. What’s more, the sand does not retain heat from the sun which makes it the perfect terrain for a beach holiday.
