Hotel Minerva

Sorrento, Italy

Perched on a hill above Sorrento, the Hotel Minerva is often bathed in sunshine. Its signature burnt red shutters look out to sea, offset by the cool blue of the swimming pool.

Rooms are spacious with large beds, wooden parquet floors and bright floral paintings on the walls. The balconies are a particular pleasure, looking directly across the Bay of Naples.

Sorrento town is accessed along a busy downhill road, but it only takes ten minutes on foot and there are wonderful views of the coast as you go.

OUR OPINION:

The Hotel Minerva has a lot to offer; most notably large rooms with balconies and a beautiful sun-lit terrace. It’s just close enough to the centre of Sorrento without being in the throngs of the busy streets.

Excellent

Rooms

Rooms are of a generous size. Their stone balconies face the sea, featuring flowing curtains and burnt red banisters that bring out the blue of the sea beyond. The beds are large with crisp, white linens and vibrantly painted floor tiles typical of the region. The rooms tend to have striking decor with bright bathrooms and spacious, walk-in showers.

Location

Hotel Minerva sits high on a hill above Sorrento. To walk to town, you cross a rather busy road and then follow a winding road for a few minutes before reaching the main shopping street, Corso Italia. From here, it’s a five-minute walk to Piazza Tasso, where you’ll find restaurants, shops and the elevator down to the port.

Food and drink

The Minerva Restaurant is a fine choice, serving delicious dishes with a focus on fresh seafood and seasonal vegetables. The large stone terrace, with its panoramic views, makes for an exceptional dinner setting. The restaurant is also open for a buffet-style breakfast or light lunch. For an evening aperitivo or cocktail, Il Bar Minerva is a relaxing, alfresco spot.

Facilities and activities

On the rooftop of the hotel is a blue mosaicked swimming pool with water jets at one end and surrounding poolside sunloungers to relax on. The Minerva also has its own gym on site.
