La Dimora di Metello

La Dimora di Metello

Matera, Italy

With just four rooms, La Dimora di Metello has a warm welcoming feel that makes guests feel at home even in the maze-like walls of the Sassi of Matera. The location within the sassi allows guests to fully experience the intricate stone maze of steps and walkways that connect the cave dwelling to each other just as they have for centuries. The views from the property are equally impressive, with the grey and taupe stone structures of the ancient town visible from the pretty stone balcony.

The four rooms of the hotel have masterfully combined modern minimalist design with the characterful, rough-hewn rock walls of the sassi. In each room smooth plaster walls are cut away in areas to reveal the stone underneath. Arched ceilings of pale rock add a characterful touch and remind visitors that their cave rooms have been dwellings for early residents of Matera since ancient times. In the morning breakfast is served at a communal table with traditional Italian breakfast fare. There is a small spa on site as well which guests can reserve in advance.

OUR OPINION:

For a friendly sense of hospitality, we love the welcoming feel of La Dimora di Metello. We also like the appealing blend of modern style with cave walls in the four rooms of the property.
