Centurion Palace

Venice, Italy

The foundations of this hotel date back to the 13th century, but it was rebuilt in the 19th century and named Palazzo Genovese. It is one of the few properties with a large courtyard, which is now the elegant land entrance to the hotel. On the other side of the building is the hotel鈥檚 private water taxi entrance and long terrace bar offering excellent views of the Grand Canal and the Santa Maria della Salute Church.

This contemporary yet classically Venetian designed hotel has a great selection of rooms, many with high ceilings or wooden beams and all with large, comfortable beds.

OUR OPINION:

We particularly like the Centurion Palace for its excellent location on the banks of the Grand Canal in the charming Dorsoduro district. Unlike many of the city鈥檚 other historic properties, the Centurion Palace鈥檚 neo-Gothic fa莽ade and bright modern interiors make it a real breath of fresh air.

Excellent

Rooms

Large and spacious, the rooms at the Centurion Palace are an excellent example of this hotel鈥檚 unique design. They either have fantastic high ceilings or original wooden beams, while the walls are decorated with pieces of contemporary art. The views can vary from picturesque Venetian rooftops, inner courtyard scenes or stunning vistas of the Grand Canal. The bathrooms are lined in gold, a signature feature, and mostly have baths as well as showers.

Location

The Dorsoduro district is full of lovely restaurants and bars. If you do want to hop over to the St Mark's area, you can easily do so on a traghetto (gondola-style foot ferry) or a vaporetto (water bus) from Salute station. In the evenings, the hotel also offers a free shuttle across the canal to St Mark’s. The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is also nearby.

Food and drink

The stylish white dining room with its futuristic design offers views across the water to the historic frontages that line the Grand Canal. Outside, there is a charming terrace area which can also be enjoyed for breakfast or for a quiet drink during the day. For lunch and dinner there is an excellent à la carte menu on offer or, should you wish to venture further afield, there are plenty of charming restaurants within easy reach nearby.

Facilities and activities

There is a small gym on the top floor of the hotel as well as massage facilities on request.
