India Specialist

I’ve been exploring the wonderful variety of India for years now and it keeps pulling me back. As a trained yoga teacher, I’m interested in the exotic array of spirituality in India and the influence of the divine in all areas of the culture. India offers a bit of everything, from stunning landscapes and jaw-dropping mountains to vibrant cities and golden sandy beaches.

Travel has been an enormous passion of mine for as long as I can remember, I’ve lived in a multitude of different countries, including Vietnam, Hong Kong, and India. I’ve worked as a journalist and a primary teacher and am now excited to be able to share my expertise and passion for travel every single day.

Since joining Audley, I’ve seen leopards on safari in Jawai, Rajasthan, been horse riding with a king and visited the Taj Mahal. I look forward to sharing my highlights with you and building your dream adventure.

Q&A with Lucy

Machu Picchu

Where would you love to travel next?

I’ve been dreaming of visiting Peru for years now. The allure is hiking in the Andes Mountains and taking in breathtaking views of the Urubamba River Valley. I want to explore the Inca Trail and the architecture at Machu Picchu. The biodiversity also makes it a wonderful destination for wildlife lovers.

City Palace and Pichola lake in Udaipur, India

Which book, film or artwork captures India the most?

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel — a feel good classic, this film documents a group of ‘self-deluded old fossils’ in their golden years on their exotic adventure to Rajasthan, India. The film shows the stunning views of the lakes in Udaipur, the colourful markets and the wonderful character of Rajasthan’s traditional boutique hotels. It portrays the diversity of India, the bright colours, the chaos, the magnificent architecture and the incredible hospitality.

Local man, Rural Rajasthan

Your best piece of travel advice?

Talk to people. Everywhere you go, chat to those around you, get to know the local people, listen to their stories, and learn about their lives. For me, this is the most interesting part of travelling, the opportunity to connect with people from different walks of life. These are the moments that warm your heart and become embedded in your memory. When, exploring Jawai in Rajasthan, I got to visit the family home of a local shepherd, it was through talking to his wife that I learnt about their lives, their struggles, their joys, and their hopes.
