As well as the soothing springs and excellent spa facilities on offer at Papallacta, there are numerous self-guided or naturalist-guided ecological paths in which you can appreciate the local flora and fauna as well as stunning views of the glacial landscape and the extinct volcano Antisana rising 5,704 m above sea level. Walks can vary in length, duration and difficulty and can be tailored to your own needs.

The surrounding "The Rancho del Cañón" (a 250 hectare protected reserve) is also a wonderful place for birdwatching (condors and, more commonly, hummingbirds can be seen here).

For the more adventurous you could arrange a full day's rafting trip on the Quijos River. The river is classified as Class III/IV rapids for which no previous rafting experience is required, except for being a good swimmer and feel no discomfort of being in the water. The Quijos River is around 40 minutes from the lodge and you can expect around four hours on the water.
