Gite du Mont Albert

G卯te du Mont-Albert

The Gasp茅 Peninsula, Canada

Surrounded on all sides by Québec’s Chic-Choc Mountains, the historic Gîte du Mont-Albert presents a unique opportunity to stay in the heart of Gaspésie National Park. Built in 1950, for many the gîte is synonymous with Gaspésie, and remains the premier accommodation in the region.

The hotel’s Swiss chalet-style edifice complements its leafy mountain surrounds, and the food and hospitality here is second-to-none. Throughout the property it is evident that Gaspésie’s scenery has been at the forefront of its design, be it the bar’s floor-to-ceiling windows, the views of Mont-Albert from its outdoor heated swimming pool, or its guest rooms that have been carefully positioned to take in views of the encircling mountains.

OUR OPINION:

We like the g卯te for its elegant service, unparalleled views, and prime location in the heart of Gasp茅sie National Park. After a day in Gasp茅sie, we like relaxing by the open-air pool, watching the sunset over the mountains.

Rooms

The main lodge has 48 rooms, each set at an angle to make the most of the surrounding mountain panorama. All have recently been refurbished to a sleek design, and feature an iPod docking station, a hair dryer and a fridge, in addition to a TV and high-speed Wi-Fi access. Rooms also feature a coffeemaker (although coffee pods are provided at an additional charge). In addition, Caribou Lodge, adjacent to the main lodge, contains 12 rooms. Do note that these do not offer Wi-Fi connectivity, although guests are invited to use Wi-Fi in the main bar area.聽

Location

The only hotel within Gasp茅sie National Park, the g卯te is聽just 40 km (25 miles) from the town of Sainte-Anne-des-Monts on Qu茅bec鈥檚 Gasp茅 Peninsula. Situated in the Rivi猫re-Sainte-Anne Valley (which divides the park鈥檚 western and eastern sectors), it is dwarfed by one of the park鈥檚 highest peaks, its namesake mountain, Mont-Albert. Its central location allows easy access to Gasp茅sie鈥檚 information offices, and the park鈥檚 various scenic viewpoints and walking trails.

Food and drink

The g卯te's student hospitality curriculum has fostered a reputation for training Qu茅bec鈥檚 best. Nowhere is this more evident than in its dining room, where haute cuisine is paired with Qu茅b茅cois wines and impeccable service. Alternatively, those seeking more casual fare may prefer to eat in the g卯te's bar, whose ceiling-to-floor windows boast an alpine panorama. Here, diners can enjoy pub food and a lengthy cocktail menu beside a crackling log fire.聽

Facilities and activities

The g卯te's outdoor heated swimming pool continues to prove popular with guests, who come to take in the views and enjoy a soak after a day in the park. The g卯te also has a sauna, spa and laundry facilities, in addition to its expansive patio area with barbecue facilities and an outdoor fireplace. Staff are also able to arrange guided tours in the park, and can provide packed lunches for those spending a full day in Gasp茅sie National Park. The property is located within the national park and the park鈥檚 entry fee is included in your stay here.

Accessibility

Although the g卯te does not have an elevator, six accessible rooms are available on its ground floor.聽
