Nsefu Camp is located on a sweeping bend of the river, 12 kilometers north of Tena Tena. Nsefu was the first game camp in Zambia and dates back to the early 50s. Robin Pope Safaris reopened the camp in 1999, in keeping with the original style. The view of the river is superb and includes a terraced area where game grazes during the day. The bar, tucked in beside a huge extinct termite mound, overlooks a waterhole that is very productive for game, especially leopard at night.

Accommodation is in the six original rondavels that have fortunately been extended and refurbished since the 50s! Now they are supremely stylish with whitewashed walls and pale cream and blue linens. Billowing muslin nets surround the beds and sumptuous en suite bathrooms have basins, WC, shower, plentiful white fluffy towels and shining brass taps. Each room has a clear view of the river, through large windows and from the spacious wooden veranda. Activities at Nsefu include morning, evening and night game drives and walks. After a full day's activities you are ready for the superb three-course meals that are served, lit by silver candelabras, under the stars on the lawn.

If you are interested in responsible tourism, it is possible to arrange a visit to one of the projects that Project Luangwa, which Robin Pope Safaris work closely with, as part of your safari. These include schools which have been built, a project for disabled children, tree planting, and a new library. This needs to be pre-arranged and requires a donation toward the project, and is a wonderfully enriching experience.
