Amantaka

Luang Prabang, Laos

Amantaka is set to redefine the luxury hotel concept in Luang Prabang and is a long awaited addition to the fairly limited luxury hotel options in town. Aman Resorts are renowned for their blend of contemporary Asian style, peaceful locations, unassuming refined luxury and their trademark exemplary service, and now Amantaka brings this exclusive philosophy to Luang Prabang.

Amantaka derives its meaning from "aman", meaning peace in Sanskrit and "taka", from Tipitaka, meaning "the teaching of the Buddha" in Theravada scholastic literature, a sentiment that perfectly captures the spirit of the resort. Amantaka is located just south of Phousi mountain, a short walk from the many boutiques, bakeries and restaurants of Luang Prabang's main street. The fabled night market is nearby and the peaceful banks of the Mekong and Khan. Luang Prabang's numerous colorful temples are also within walking distance.

The graceful French-colonial buildings that house Amantaka are steeped in history — previously the site was the old provincial hospital before Aman acquired the 32 buildings in 2005, ten of which are protected by UNESCO World Heritage status. Now fully restored in line with UNESCO requirements, Amantaka is home to 24 sumptuous and well-equipped suites clustered around a central, leafy courtyard. Each of the suites has access to private outside veranda space and some boast Luang Prabang's only private pools. Facilities at the hotel include a yoga studio where private classes can be arranged, a gymnasium with access to a personal trainer, swimming pool and library.

Various options for exploring the area can be organized through the hotel's extensive excursion program, including visits to the nearby waterfalls, trips on the Mekong, cooking courses and village visits. Complimentary airport transfers are included with your stay.
