Araras Lodge

The Araras Lodge is located 132 km away from Cuiabá in the state of Mato Grosso. You'll be driven for about an hour and a half out of the city to the town of Poconé and then for about 40 minutes along the 'Transpantaneira' which is a dirt road but should not be too bumpy. Built in a regional and rustic style, the lodge has 19 comfortable rooms with air conditioning. It also boasts a small pool, perfect for some relaxation after a day in the Pantanal.

The lodge's 'low impact' policy means that group excursions are kept small (maximum of 10 people per guide), vehicles kept to a minimum, and employees are local to the area. Guests are invited to climb the lodge's wooden tower (25 m high) which you access via a raised, wooden walkway passing all manner of flora and fauna and plenty of caiman. The top of the tower affords great views across the plains and on the way up you will have a good chance of spotting monkeys and birds in nearby trees.
