The Six Senses Punakha lodge is at an elevation of 4,595 ft (1,400 m), a 15-minute drive north of the Punakha Dzong and is fondly known as the ‘Flying Farmhouse amidst the rice fields’.

It’s in the warmest of the lodge locations, and temperatures can reach 32°C (86°F) in the summer months.

A wonderful property set on a hillside, with stunning views over the valley and mountains, making for a luxurious stay in Punakha.

Rooms

There are 16 luxurious suites and three villas with private pools. All rooms are thoughtfully designed to complement the natural surroundings, have warm, wooden interiors and include characterful Bhutanese touches. They are spacious and comfortable with modern amenities and large windows provide plenty of natural light (and offer views of the stars at night).

Location

Located only 15 minutes’ drive from the grand Punakha Dzong — one of Bhutan’s most magnificent structures — the lodge benefits from a warmer climate, making for an excellent starting point for hikes in the gorgeous Punakha valley.

Food and drink

  • Ari restaurant offers all-day dining, serving fresh Bhutanese cuisine.
  • In-suite dining can be arranged, complete with your own chef and dedicated waiter.

Facilities and activities

The lodge is home to an outdoor swimming pool with stunning views, a spa wellness centre, a lounge, library and an indoor/outdoor dining room. There is plenty of local history to absorb — Punakha was the Kingdom’s capital for 300 years until the 1950s. Places to explore nearby include the grand Punakha Dzong and Chimi Lhakhang. Day walks and scenic hikes are also possible to arrange.
