The Hotel Alyeska at Alyeska Resort

The US

Alyeska Resort is known for its deep snowpack and steep terrain, as well as its expansive mountain and ocean views over the unspoiled Alaskan wilderness. The hotel is convenient to several national parks, including Denali, and serves as a good base camp for your summer and winter excursions.

The resort combines modern touches with a rich Native heritage. The rooms’ warm organic interiors feature artwork by Native artists such as Larry Ahvakana and Percy Avugiak, who is best known for sculptured animal figures cast in wood, marble, glass, ivory or bronze.

After a day of skiing, guided glacier hikes or any of the other activities on offer, there is a wealth of facilities to help you wind down and relax, including a health spa, swimming pool, full gymnasium, three restaurants, a bar and shops.

OUR OPINION:

Hotel Alyeska is a great base for enjoying the Alaskan way of life and mingle with locals in the nearby town, all while enjoying the beautiful scenery and snow-capped mountains.

Rooms

The eight-story hotel features 301 spacious guest rooms, decorated in a chateau-style design that features Alaska Native artwork from the highly respected photographer and artist Edward Curtis. Each standard guest room offers sweeping views of either the mountain or valley, as well as en suite bathrooms, complimentary bottled water and either two double beds or one king bed.

Location

Anchorage and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport are located 65 km (40 miles) away, via the scenic Seward Highway. The highway follows the Turnagain Arm, a narrow branch of the Cook Inlet. Public transportation is provided year-round in Girdwood through Glacier Valley Transit (GVT), allowing guests to dine at one of Girdwood’s restaurants.

Food and drink

The hotel offers nine restaurants and cafés serving a wide range of meals, from casual to fine-dining. Menus here feature fresh Alaskan seafood, Asian-inspired cuisine, speciality pizza and a full breakfast buffet. The hotel’s flagship restaurant, Seven Glaciers, combines exceptional food with one of the best views in the state — diners reach the mountain-top restaurant via aerial tram and dine at 700 m (2,300 feet) above sea level. We recommend the baked Alyeska.

Facilities and activities

As a premier ski resort, the hotel also operates heli-skiing and cat-skiing, and can arrange off-resort outings like glacier and wildlife cruising, bear viewing, fishing, zip-lining, rainforest and alpine hiking. The Spa at Alyeska offers a range of massage and body treatments.
