Truly deserving its title, Petit Saint Vincent is the smallest island in the Grenadines chain. It’s also the furthest south, with Mustique visible on a clear day. It’s been labelled as one of the best private islands in the world, and with luxurious accommodation, pristine beaches and clear turquoise waters, it’s easy to see why.

The island was untouched until the 1960s, when two American sailors landed on it, quickly negotiating a deal with the local landowner to purchase the island and begin the lengthy task of turning it into a resort. One of the sailors, Haze Richardson, stayed on and managed the island for many years with his wife. The island is now under new ownership, but the new owners have maintained the laid-back luxury of the island.

A volcanic island, it’s almost completely surrounded by beautiful beaches. Some have been subtly dressed with hammocks and sunshades, others have been left completely untouched. The highest peak, a mere 83 m (275 ft) above sea level, is the lush tree-covered Marni Hill dominating the northwest of the island. Walking trails meander across the island, and there are rocky outcrops and gardens to explore.

A large horseshoe reef protects the long stretch of eastern beach, and smaller reefs encircle the rest of the island.
