Albergo dell'Agenzia

Albergo dell'Agenzia

Piedmont, Italy

Stately and sprawling, the Albergo dell’Agenzia Hotel is situated in a neo-Gothic building that was once the royal summer estate of the Savoy family. Conveniently located near the town of Pollenzo, it’s a good base for exploring Piedmont, the area at the heart of the Slow Food movement and the hotel’s restaurant reflects that. The chefs are committed to local and seasonable food, offering traditional interpretations of the regional cuisine. The menu is complimented by an extensive wine list that draws on the Wine Bank, a vast wine cellar that shares the same building complex and offers more than 100,000 bottles. Also in the same complex, you'll find the University of Gastronomic Sciences, a school dedicated to the ideals of the Slow Food movement.

The 46 spacious rooms and suites, which are all named after local wines, feature classic decor with leather furnishings, terracotta floors and coffered ceilings. Guests have access to a grassy courtyard and impressive parkland, as well as a heated outdoor pool during the summer months. There’s also a full-service bar and a wellness area that offers slow beauty treatments.

Please note that there is a local city tax that will need to be paid directly to your hotel for any stay in the Langhe area. This tax is subject to change but is usually around 2 euros per person, per night and will need to be paid on your departure.

OUR OPINION:

We love the Albergo Dell’Agenzia for its close connection to the Slow Food movement, the immense Wine Bank and its charming interior courtyard, as well as the surrounding parkland.

Rooms

Named after local wines, the 46 rooms and suites at the Albergo dell’Agenzia are all decorated with leather furnishings, terracotta floor and coffered ceilings. The bathrooms are finished with classic white marble. Rooms offer views of either the complex's tiled rooftop or its grassy inner courtyard and all rooms are fully equipped with air conditioning and Wi-Fi connection.

Location

The Albergo dell’Agenzia is located just outside the small town of Pollenzo, near the greater town of Bra, amidst the Langhe hills. You can enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside, but you're just a short walk to the main town square, where you can find a small selection of restaurants.

Food and drink

All of the menus at the Albergo dell’Agenzia are inspired by the Slow Food movement and chefs here use ingredients from local, sustainable farms to craft authentic dishes that draw on the rich traditions of the Piedmont region. The restaurant is open all year and also offers a list of more than 300 wines drawn from the nearby Wine Bank.

At the elegantly informal bar, you can choose to sit at one of the large, leather couches under the great brick arches inside, or enjoy the weather on the deck that overlooks the parkland. The menu includes apéritifs, afternoon tea, cocktails and wines chosen by the experts at the Wine Bank.

A generous breakfast buffet is served daily and might include croissants, cakes, jams, fruit, cheese, eggs and cold cuts, as well as celiac-friendly items.

Facilities and activities

The wellness area includes spa treatments, a Jacuzzi, a sauna, a Turkish bath and a gym. You’ll find there is also an outdoor swimming pool, which is heated during the summer months and is surrounded by a lush green yard. There are a number of activities arranged by the Wine Bank — you can find details at reception.
