A fishing town once home to some of Greece’s most important shipping families, Galaxidi has streets lined with Neoclassical mansions. The atmosphere resembles that of a Greek island: the town was only accessible from the sea until 1963 and developed in relative isolation. While exploring its cobbled streets with a private guide on this full-day tour, you’ll hear about the history of the town and its inhabitants as you visit its important landmarks. You’ll then get a chance to sample fresh seafood in one of the many restaurants along the waterfront before visiting a local beekeeper to experience traditional Greek honey production.

You’ll be picked up at your hotel in Delphi or Arachova at the start of the day and driven directly to Galaxidi, a journey of 45 minutes to one hour. One you reach Galaxidi, you’ll continue on foot through the cobbled streets, your guide leading you to the grandest mansions and churches. This walk acts as an introduction to the history of the region and its importance in Greek maritime affairs over the centuries.

As you wander down little streets lined with painted houses sporting bright blue and green shutters, you’ll hear about local customs and traditions. Your guide will explain about the town’s position on 18th-century maritime trade routes, and the fortunate events that led to Galaxidi’s heyday in the 19th century.

After lunch, you’ll continue with your guide to visit a local beekeeper in nearby Itea. Upon arrival, you’ll be given a protective suit before heading out into the garden to view the hives.

The beekeepers will talk about the life of the bees and their importance as well as the process of making honey. You might have the opportunity to hold one of the honeycomb frames and observe the bees up close, should you wish.

After your lesson, you’ll taste some of the variations of the honey produced here, before meeting your driver and returning to your hotel.
