Le Clos d'Amboise, Loire Valley

Le Clos d'Amboise

Amboise, France

Once a 17th-century family home, Le Clos d’Amboise expertly retains the same elegance and tradition it enjoyed during its heyday. Quiet reading rooms, warm fireplaces and creaking floorboards give the impression of visiting the home of a family friend. Rich tapestries line the corridors, chandeliers dangle from the beamed ceilings and there is the occasional touch of the exotic in the Egyptian art on the walls.

Rooms are just as welcoming with subtle shades of red, yellow or blue in the fabrics and hints of gold in the antique lamps and mirrors. There is also space to relax with a drink in the intimate library or the quiet courtyard. Alternatively, the heart of medieval Amboise is just a ten-minute walk away.

OUR OPINION:

Le Clos d’Amboise is effortlessly elegant yet understated, and most importantly, still feels lived in. Relax around the fireplace with a good book or enjoy an excellent vintage in the salon, and you'll be transported back to the 17th century.

Rooms

Ornate rugs, heavy wood beams and golden chandeliers give a warmth and elegance to the rooms while still being understated and inviting. Modern touches can be seen in the crisp linens and bright bathrooms and although just a few feature stately four-poster beds, all rooms have views looking out onto the well-manicured gardens and courtyard or onto the old stables. All rooms have a minibar, flat-screen TV, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi. Only certain suites offer both a bath and a separate shower; the other rooms have baths with overhead showers.

The hotel is situated just a three-minute walk from central Amboise, but is far enough away to feel like a peaceful refuge from the busy streets and restaurants.
