Hameau Albert 1er

Hameau Albert 1er

Chamonix, France

Open since 1903, family-run Hameau Albert 1er has been welcoming visitors and adventurers for over a century. The hotel is made up of four traditional wooden chalets alongside a more modern building and has been run by the same family since its establishment. From humble beginnings, the Hameau Albert 1er has grown into a stylish Relais & Chateaux property with a focus on gastronomy and relaxation.

The 37 rooms and suites are divided between the modern Albert 1er building and the more rustic La Ferme. Rooms in Albert 1er have sleek lines and contemporary styling, while rooms in La Ferme have a more traditional mountain style with wooden beams and floors. All are extremely comfortable and offer all modern amenities.

There are two on-site restaurants: La Maison Carrier is the traditional bistro offering a wide array of typical Savoyard options, while Albert 1er has two Michelin stars and is the hotel’s highly-regarded gastronomic restaurant.

Along with easy access to the ski slopes or mountain hiking paths, the hotel has a large indoor-outdoor pool, a spa, gym and climbing wall.

OUR OPINION:

We love Hameau Albert 1er for its refined chalet atmosphere, fine dining options and relaxing swimming pool.

Rooms

The rooms are spread across two buildings, each with its own distinct style. Those in the Albert 1er, the original building, are individually-styled in a contemporary manner with designer furniture and decor in blues, grays, and mauves. Rooms in La Ferme are more rustic and built with wood reclaimed from old chalets across the Alps. The traditional Alpine architecture is combined with modern furniture and amenities, private balconies with view of Mont Blanc, and large bathrooms with separate baths and showers.

For larger groups and honeymooners there are also a selection of family suites and independent chalets on the property.

Location

The hotel is situated in the heart of Chamonix. Visitors will find many shops, bars and restaurants within a five-minute walk of the hotel and many of the town’s main attractions, like the cable car to the Aiguille du Midi, within a ten-minute walk.

Food and drink

The hotel’s La Maison Carriere is a popular choice even among locals for its wide variety of classic French cuisine as well as heartier Savoyard fare. The fine-dining restaurant, Albert 1er, has two Michelin stars and is acclaimed for its emphasis on simplicity but the big, bold dishes it still manages to produce. If guests don’t want a large meal, they can head to the Quartz Bar, a wine and cocktail bar that also serves gourmet tapas.

Facilities and activities

The hotel has an innovative half-indoor, half-outdoor swimming pool with a glass divider that comes down in the winter months and allows the pool to be accessible year round. Le Bachal spa offers a steam room, a Jacuzzi and massage treatments. There is also a small gym as well as a rock climbing wall.
