Cap Estel

Cap Estel

ȳú±ð, France

With the Mediterranean nearly surrounding the hotel on its quiet peninsula, Cap Estel enjoys far-reaching sea views and the utmost feeling of peace and seclusion. It is set east of Nice, just below the hilltop town of ȳú±ð, and was built in 1899 but a recent renovation has brought it right up to date. Its historic nature lends each room its own unique design while the decor is refined and classically elegant.

The rooms are divided among four buildings and feature fresh, predominantly white, decor with pops of vibrant purple or blue. Some are set right into the rock face above the Mediterranean and offer superb views. The hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant is another highlight, as well as its infinity pool filled with heated seawater. Possibly best of all however, is the expansive terrace overlooking the hotel’s private pebble beach, where you can enjoy a drink with a 180-degree view of the water.

Though there is no shuttle service from the hotel, there is little need to leave. Staff consistently deliver five-star service while maintaining the sensation of staying in an intimate family home.

OUR OPINION:

This intimate yet effortlessly sophisticated hotel not only has an excellent location and direct access to the sea, but also feels like a private family villa with all the trimmings of a five-star property.

Rooms

Guest rooms are spread across four buildings: Le Cap (The Cape), the main building; Les Jardins (The Gardens), an Italianate building elevated on the hillside; and La Mer (The Sea) and Le Parc (The Park), whose rooms are set right into the peninsula wall by the sea. The hotel has 16 suites which can be separated to form 28 individual rooms. Decor in the rooms reflects the peace and tranquility of the surrounding water with fresh white linens accented by shades of purple and blue. In addition to the pleasing decor, rooms all have free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free soft drinks from the minibar and a private balcony or terrace with views of the sea or gardens.

Location

The hotel is right on the coast just below ȳú±ð and east of the city of Nice, but enjoys a private location on a small peninsula jutting out into the Mediterranean. There is no shuttle from the hotel to ȳú±ð or anywhere else in the surrounding area, but the hotel has a private pebble beach so guests can sit by the water or go for a swim. Monaco and Monte Carlo are just a short drive away.

Food and drink

Cap Estel’s restaurant, La Table de Patrick Raingeard, boasts a Michelin star, among other culinary recognitions and achievements. The menu focuses on fresh produce from the surrounding area, as well as taking inspiration from the tastes and cultures of the wider Mediterranean area. Many of the ingredients for dishes come directly from the hotel’s own kitchen garden.

Facilities and activities

There are plenty of opportunities for relaxation in the water, whether in the outdoor heated sea-water infinity pool, the indoor freshwater pool or the Mediterranean itself, lapping along the hotel’s private pebble beach. The beach is a fine place to relax and take in the view, or you could steal away into one of the hidden nooks along the coast for more privacy. Underneath the infinity pool is an indulgent spa offering a wide range of treatments.
