Almayer Art & Heritage Hotel

Almayer Art & Heritage Hotel

Zadar, Croatia

Built in 1863, this former Austrian military hospital turned characterful boutique hotel preserves its history and period elegance. Inside, you鈥檙e met with a wealth of original features such as wooden beam ceilings and exposed stone walls, as well as more contemporary elements such as modern artworks, natural materials, and sprinklings of quirky design. All of the nine light-filled rooms, including four in a separate annex across the park from the main building, have minimalist decor, neutral hues, and modern bathrooms with showers and toiletries. Some have views of the park and church.

The hotel also has an outdoor terrace and garden, a restaurant for ingredient-driven Dalmatian cuisine and an extensive wine and cocktail menu, and a team of friendly staff who can arrange sightseeing tours and excursions. You鈥檒l also be within easy distance of the Zadar鈥檚 most visit-worthy attractions, including Saint Donatus Church, the city walls and gates, and the two famous architectural installations: Sea Organ and Greetings to the Sun.

OUR OPINION:

We love the focus on local food, wine, and art at this intimate boutique hotel in Zadar鈥檚 old town. The contemporary rooms are stylish and creative while the outdoor terrace and garden are ideal spots for summer drinks.
